Rose Cottage - June 2019

"This is a 400 year old house in the middle of Appledore, yet with total privacy. There are quirks that come with the house - unlimited wi-fi, but little or no signal, the unusual internal map of the house, but the charms that come with this are many. Above everything, an incredible large private walled garden, ideal for children and dogs (adults might long for a sun lounger or two!) which is a hidden paradise . The kitchen has all you need, the living room is very comfortable , the bathroom is again all that is needed. The four bedrooms are fine. The extra touches - natural vases of flowers and herbs from the garden, and herbs put in the kitchen for our use. Danielle, the host, was kindness itself, keen to ensure our stay was a true pleasure. We bought crab and lobster from her for a meal, and she dressed it beautifully, including various little tubs to complement the meal. Delicious! Parking is actually on Danielle's own driveway, which is literally in front of this house. During busy periods, this will definitely be a big plus, as parking is a premium in Appledore. However, as we were there before the season, we tended to use either the roadside or the car park behind the house, which is very reasonably priced at £3 for the day. This saved disturbing Danielle and her dog Willow too often."

Myrtles & Gannet Review

"We've just returned from a brilliant ten day stay at Myrtle Cottage. Appledore is a lovely village to stay in and highly recommended. Myrtle is extremely conveniently located one minute’s walk from the sea front and the local grocery store/deli (excellent) but it's still a quiet location. It is located in the old part of the village which is full of character. The house itself is cottage but very large. The rooms are all big. The kitchen is very well equipped with a large fridge freezer, dishwasher and loads and loads of crockery. There is a washing machine and tumble drier in a separate laundry room. The dining table easily seats 12 and the living room is enormous with a very large screen TV and sky. The WiFi is good especially since phone signal inside the house is poor downstairs. The bedrooms are all comfortable and very pretty. There are TVs in most rooms and some of the bedrooms too. The bathroom is large with a separate shower cubicle. There is a second toilet and wash basin downstairs. Overall, the cottage has loads and loads of character. The furniture is not modern but in keeping with the cottage and not dated. Everything is clean and in good working order.

With regards to the previous reviewer’s comments, there was plenty of cupboard space in all the bedrooms and kitchen. The cottage is certainly not furnished in a minimalist style. There are hundreds of books and lots of ornaments on most surfaces but it all adds character and interesting things to look at. You can easily make space on surfaces. The kids’ bedroom was lovely.

Outside there is lovely patio which is a sun trap. The garden was beautiful in summer and the gates closed so our dog could run around outside in the garden safely. Our small dog was allowed in the house too. There is space for four cars but recommend you reverse in!

All in all, we loved staying in Myrtle cottage. You can also rent the annex which gives you space for another 6 people.

Danielle, the owner, is very helpful and friendly too.

We plan to go back which says it all.

Hope it’s available when we want to return!"

Rose Review

I would just like to thank you for our wonderful holiday at your beautiful and quirky, warm and cosy, Rose Cottage for two weeks at the end of August, 2017, for the two weeks prior to 26th August.

The house facilities and it's huge size were absolutely perfect for us with our big German Shepherd dog and the quarter acre of garden was a very unusual find in Appledore.

We and our dog Robbo loved lounging in your beautiful garden sunshine and exploring all it's nooks and crannies!

The location of Rose Cottage was absolutely perfect too for enjoying the exciting heart of Appledore's daily activities and evening entertainment and we enjoyed every single day there.

Your kitchen and lounge were so full of charm and we loved your two big cosy settees to slump into after a busy day out!

We were so tempted to light your gorgeous and cosy looking open fire with all the logs and kindling you had left for us, plus all the readily chopped wood pile in the garden, but the weather was far too hot for an open fire!

All rooms were much bigger than the usual holiday accommodation and you was so helpful! As we loved Appledore so much, we would love to book Rose Cottage again.

Can we please book for one week from Tuesday, 31st October till Thursday 9th November, and also for two weeks again next year, from the end of July through to August or in August?

Thank you once again for our wonderful time as guests at Rose Cottage and hopefully you can accommodate our future holidays in Appledore.

Yours sincerely,

Erika Jones (Mrs).

Picies Review

I will write a thank you email on Monday, when I have more time, for our lovely stay, as always with Appledore Cottages, and this time at Pices, and I will say how Danielle always looks after things for us and even though ill this time and not there, still helped sort everything for us to make us as comfortable as possible.

Her decor and furniture is always so quirky and so Appledore, and some of it is worth a fortune too!

We love the quaintness and old school back in time getting away from pristine beige walls and shiny glossy new kitchens!

Lovely!

Appledore cottages are exactly that! Not 5 star hotels! If we wanted that, we’d pay a lot more, and have, for a pristine cold looking environment.

We go to Appledore for exactly NOT that!

I’ll complete my happy thoughts on Monday!
